Xplanet Markers
The Xplanet program allows you to do astronomic visualisations within the solar system, it also allows you place markers onto the planets. This page is dedicated to markers which show the location of people related to Source Mage, either developers or users.
To add yourself to the list of markers look up your longitude and latitude location and insert below into the User/ Developer Marker Data table using the following format latitude longitude "First name 'IRC nick' Last name" # user or developer
You can for example use Heavens-Above to find your location, it doesn't have to be very precise, just to generally show where you're are.
By following this format it's easy to change how the markers are drawn by using a simple sed script. For example you could show developers in a different color or only use IRC nick as label.
To create a basic Xplanet configuration with the Source Mage marker file follow the instructions below.
Run mkdir ~/.xplanet
Run cp /usr/share/xplanet/config/default ~/.xplanet
Run mkdir ~/.xplanet/markers
Paste the marker data below into the file ~/.xplanet/markers/sourcemage.
Open the ~/.xplanet/default file in a text editor.
- Find the "Earth" section.
Add marker_file=sourcemage into that section.
Try running xplanet -window -projection rectangular, the names and locations in the marker file should be shown clearly.
Notice: The default size of the xplanet window is 512x512 pixels. If you want to change it, add -geometry <width>x<height> to the command, e.g. xplanet -window -projection rectangular -geometry 1024x600.

Sed transforms:
No labels, so you can actualy see the dots and map: sed -e "s/\(^.*\ \"\)[^\"]*/\1/g"
Make developers a different colour (from rycee): sed -e 's/#.*developer/color=red &/' -e 's/#.*user/color=lightblue &/' -e "s/\".*'\(.*\)'.*\"/\"\1\"/"
Only show nicks: sed -e "s/\(^.*\ \"\)[^']*'/\1/g" -e "s/\(^.*[^']\)'[^\"]*/\1/g"
