Name: Jaka Kranjc

Homepage: There is http://lynxlynx.info (wiki), but it's more a scratchpad for me than anything else. LPN is where I occasionally actually do some web work (eek!) and hang most of the time.

SMGL Page: None.

IRC Nick(s): lynxlynxlynx, lynxlynx, lynx and varius forms and varieties.

Role in SMGL: I am the current Sorcery Lead. I also work on grimoire QA, quill and miscellaneous stuff.

Age: uhh, I was born in '84 ...

Location/Country: Slovenija

When did you first start using Linux and why? I don't remember too well, as a start I had a few sporadical run-ins with Slackware. No internet taught me to rtfm and try wierd stuff from the old tldp howtos. I started really using it with Mandrake 9.1 (9.2 was already available). Once that blew up in my face - the standard dependency hell - I started using Gentoo.

Why? I don't know/remember that either. I'm sure I was annoyed with that other os. Curiosity and not being an avid gamer helped too. The whole FLOSS philosophy is also nice. :)

How long have you been using the SMGL distribution? ~Since August of 2005.

What piqued your interest in SMGL initially? Worf. I didn't really know there were any other source-based distros besides Gentoo (I don't think of LFS as of a distribution). I checked the homepage, not seing much and so I stayed with my distro. As I gained further insight in things open source, I started to see the flaws/missing features of the current setup. I installed smgl in a chroot and played with it for a while, failing to make e17 work properly, then forgot about it for a while. The more knowledge I gained, the more picky I became. I started to hang out on #sourcemage and was pleasantly surprised by the attitude. At some point I reinstalled smgl and just stayed with kde. And Source Mage.

What future do you personally see for SMGL? None, I'm not clairvoyant.

Tell us a little bit about yourself. Education/Career/Skills? Studying "forestry and renewable forest resources" in the Biotechnical faculty, University of Ljubljana. There is this myth that all foresters are hackers, but that is just plain ignorance.

Any personal messages for the Source Mage users out there? Patience is a virtue.

vi or emacs? nano or joe (jpico) or mcedit. Anything but the two. However, I'm starting to lean in the vi direction, as I learned quite a few cool key combos from readline and less (man uses it too).

KDE or GNOME? KDE. I'm not one of those minimalistic ratpoison people.

BSD or GPL? no preferences, IANAL ...

What other OS programs/software have you worked on? Codewise it was mostly various bash scripts, quite some sed masturbation for various data transformation, a kernel managment script for Gentoo (not unlike the linux spell, but less powerful) and one postinstall script for Mandriva (redesigned, current ~maintainer). I'm also a translator (Mandriva, Wesnoth) and documentator (Planeshift's eedit, general {localised,} docs).

Do you have any family? Yes.

What other hobbies? I like to solve all sorts of puzzles and create my own if need be. Mountain hiking / climbing. Botany.

What kind of car do you drive? Or what is your dream car? I don't have one and don't plan to, unless my job requires it. That was about the permitt actually, same goes for the car.

Please attach a recent photograph of yourself - if you're brave enough ;=) Not exactly a raven, but this is my familiar: http://freeweb.siol.net/kraka/smgl-avatar-25.jpg
